Whiteout Survival S1–S17 Bear Hunt Hero Lifespan & Upgrade Guide: F2P, Mid-Spenders, and Whales
S1–S17 Bear Hunt guide covering hero lifespan, F2P, mid-spender and whale upgrade paths, Exclusive Gear thresholds, troop ratios, and skippable heroes.
One of the biggest mistakes players make when reading Bear Hunt guides is assuming:
A new generation is out, so the old hero must be replaced.
That is not how Bear Hunt works.
Bear Hunt follows a very different logic from Arena or PvP. A hero can be outdated in combat modes and still remain excellent for Bear Hunt as long as their Expedition skills, rally buffs, or damage multipliers continue to fit the event.
That is why an S1 hero can still be relevant in S17, while an S3 hero can remain a core pick for more than ten generations.
This guide focuses on three questions:
- Which heroes should different spending paths use at each stage?
- Why is a hero actually worth replacing?
- How many generations can a Bear Hunt hero realistically last?
This guide is about heroes used when you start your own Bear Hunt rally. It is not a guide to rally-joiner heroes.
Troop ratios are broad averages. Your personal best ratio depends on Attack, Lethality, penetration-type bonuses, and other account-specific stats, so use battle reports to fine-tune them.
The big picture: which Bear Hunt heroes are truly long-lived?
| Hero | Debut | Core lifespan | Extended lifespan | Role |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Jeronimo | S1 | S1→S17+ | No clear retirement point yet | Legendary whale Infantry |
| Mia | S3 | S3→S14 | Still usable through S15→S17 | Legendary Lancer |
| Hector | S5 | S5→S17+ | No clear high-gen replacement yet | Legendary F2P/mid-spender Infantry |
| Rufus | S11 | S11→around S15 | High investment can stretch to S17 | Long-lived late-game Marksman |
| Bradley | S7 | S7→S9/10 | Still useful around S11 | First truly long-lived Marksman |
| Alonso | S2 | S2→S4 | Falls off around S5 | Early long-lived Marksman |
| Flint | S2 | S2→S4 | Replaced by Hector in S5 | Early F2P Infantry |
The main pattern is simple:
Infantry and Lancer heroes age very slowly in Bear Hunt. Marksman is the slot that changes most often.
Final upgrade paths
🛡 Infantry
F2P: Sergey → Flint → Hector → S17+
Mid-spender: Natalia → Hector → S17+
Whale: Jeronimo → S17+
From S5 onward, Hector is a higher-ceiling alternative, not a simple replacement for Jeronimo.
⚔️ Lancer
Molly → Mia
- S4 Reina: usable if already built;
- S12 Karol: high-investment conditional alternative;
- after S14: real challengers begin to appear;
- S15–S17: high-investment Mia can still extend her lifespan.
🏹 Marksman
Zinman / Bahiti → Alonso → Gwen → Bradley → Xura → Rufus
Important conditional or skippable nodes:
- S6 Wayne: use if already built; do not build just for Bear Hunt;
- S8 Hendrik: worthwhile at high Exclusive Gear, while regular players can keep Bradley;
- S10 Blanchette: regular players can skip her and wait for Rufus.
S1–S17 Bear Hunt Hero Lifecycle Map
Use this map to scan the Infantry, Lancer, and Marksman paths by spending level, including core phases, extended lifespan, and conditional replacements. The full reasoning and investment thresholds remain in the sections below.
S1: the basic transition phase
F2P
Sergey + Molly + Bahiti
Mid-spender
Natalia + Molly + Zinman
Whale
Jeronimo + Molly + Zinman
Average reference ratio:
Infantry : Lancer : Marksman = 1 : 4 : 5
Why does F2P use Sergey?
Not because Sergey adds meaningful Bear Hunt damage. At this point, F2P players simply do not have a proper damage-focused Infantry hero. Running three heroes gives more deployment capacity than running only two, so Sergey is mainly a capacity-based transition pick.
For the Marksman slot, if Zinman and Bahiti are at similar star levels, prioritize Zinman.
Use Zinman if you have him; otherwise use Bahiti.
S2: Flint and Alonso arrive
F2P
Flint + Molly + Alonso
Mid-spender
Natalia + Molly + Alonso
Whale
Jeronimo + Molly + Alonso
Flint may not be fully ready at the very start of S2, so some F2P players will continue using Sergey temporarily until Flint's stars and investment catch up.
The Marksman change is much clearer:
Alonso takes over the Bear Hunt Marksman slot.
When Alonso is still low-star in early S2:
1 : 4 : 5
Once he develops in mid-to-late S2:
1 : 3 : 6
S3: Mia arrives — and a legend begins
F2P
Flint + Mia + Alonso
Mid-spender
Natalia + Mia + Alonso
Whale
Jeronimo + Mia + Alonso
Mia effectively pushes Molly out of the core rally lineup.
The main reasons are:
- stronger damage amplification;
- a more Bear Hunt-friendly Exclusive Gear setup for rallies.
Recommended ratios move toward:
1 : 3 : 6
or:
1 : 2 : 7
From here onward, Marksman becomes a larger share of the march. But the truly remarkable part of S3 is Mia's lifespan: once she enters the Bear Hunt core, she can remain relevant for well over ten generations.
S4: the main lineup stays the same; Reina is conditional
F2P
Flint + Mia + Alonso
Mid-spender
Natalia + Mia + Alonso
Whale
Jeronimo + Mia + Alonso
After the relevant balance changes, Lynn does not consistently beat Alonso in Bear Hunt, so there is no reason to force a Marksman swap just for this event.
As Marksman scaling improves, recommended troop ratios become more Marksman-heavy:
5 : 20 : 75
to:
2 : 15 : 83
If you already invested in Reina, you can run:
Jeronimo + Reina + Alonso
Reina's advantage is a more stable damage floor. However, in S4 her overall Bear Hunt performance is close to Mia's.
If Reina is already built, use her. If she is not, there is no need to build her just to replace Mia for Bear Hunt.
With Reina, the ratio can return to:
1 : 4 : 5
Reina is therefore a conditional sidegrade, not a mandatory replacement.
S5: Hector and Gwen reshape the lineup
F2P / Mid-spender
Hector + Mia + Gwen
Whale
Jeronimo + Mia + Gwen
or:
Hector + Mia + Gwen
From S5 onward, Hector's Bear Hunt value clearly surpasses Natalia and Flint.
The progression becomes:
F2P: Sergey → Flint → Hector
Mid-spender: Natalia → Hector
From S5, the two paths converge.
Hector is not a one- or two-generation hero either. Even around S16–S17, there is still no universally accepted Infantry replacement that completely pushes him out of Bear Hunt.
For whales, S5 is not “Jeronimo gets replaced by Hector”
High-investment Jeronimo players do not need to force a swap in S5.
Jeronimo
Use him as the baseline:
≈100% damage
Main characteristic:
Consistency
Hector
Under similar conditions:
roughly 95%–110%
That means:
- his floor can be lower than Jeronimo's;
- his ceiling can be higher.
So the S5 whale Infantry slot becomes a strategic split, not a straightforward upgrade.
For consistency: Jeronimo
For a higher ceiling: Hector
Real results still depend on troop ratios, skill procs, and account stats.
S5 Marksman: Gwen replaces Alonso
At equal stars and similar Exclusive Gear investment, Gwen can deliver roughly:
about 25% more Bear Hunt damage than Alonso.
That is a clear upgrade.
Once Gwen is fully developed, troop composition moves toward:
3 : 7 : 90
S6: do not force a Wayne swap just for Bear Hunt
At comparable investment, Wayne and Gwen do not show a massive Bear Hunt gap.
If Wayne is already built, use him—especially if you also care about Arena and PvP, because it saves gear swapping.
If Wayne is not already invested:
There is no need to replace Gwen purely for Bear Hunt.
S6 is better described as a convenience sidegrade.
Keep:
3 : 7 : 90
S7: Bradley arrives and the Marksman meta fully takes over
Non-whale
Hector + Mia + Bradley
Whale
Jeronimo + Mia + Bradley
or:
Hector + Mia + Bradley
Bradley can start at roughly:
40%+ more Bear Hunt damage than the previous two Marksman generations.
That is a real tier jump.
Early S7:
3 : 7 : 90
Late S7, once Marksman penetration-style stats become very high:
1 : 1 : 98
From this point onward, Marksman is clearly the primary damage source in the rally.
Why can Hector outperform Jeronimo in S7?
Once Bradley enters in S7, some of Jeronimo's buffs can overlap or become diluted by Bradley's effects and buffs already present in the rally.
Hector can avoid part of that overlap.
In some high-end S7 setups, Hector can produce a higher peak than Jeronimo.
That still does not mean Jeronimo is retired.
S8: the classic Exclusive Gear threshold
Hendrik is not an automatic replacement for everyone.
Whale
With high or maxed Exclusive Gear, Hendrik can replace Bradley.
At high investment, the gain is roughly:
around 10%.
F2P / Mid-spender
At approximately:
Exclusive Gear +6
Hendrik is only around equal to Bradley.
So reaching +6 does not mean you have gained a meaningful upgrade. For many regular players, the best S8 decision is simply:
keep Bradley.
Recommended ratio:
1 : 1 : 98
S9: Xura takes the baton, but regular players should still consider cost
Xura's high-damage second skill can provide roughly:
15%–20% more damage than S7/S8 Marksmen.
Whale
Usually safe to swap directly.
F2P / Mid-spender
Consider:
- current Bradley investment;
- Xura's star level;
- Xura's Exclusive Gear;
- the cost of rebuilding the slot.
A heavily invested Bradley can still make sense through S9 or even S10.
S10: Blanchette is strong, but skippable
Blanchette is not weak. The problem is return on investment.
Her Exclusive Gear needs to reach roughly:
level 6
before the gap over S9 Xura becomes clearly noticeable.
She also has a skill that does not fully contribute against the Bear.
So if Bear Hunt is your main objective:
Regular players can skip the S10 Marksman and wait for S11.
Keep Xura—or a highly invested Bradley—and save resources.
S11: Rufus becomes the defining upgrade
By S11, the decision is much easier.
Rufus provides an enormous jump. His second skill has exceptionally high Marksman damage amplification, and his rally-oriented Exclusive Gear pushes him into another tier.
Compared with the S10 Marksman, some testing environments show roughly:
around 70% more damage.
Rufus is therefore a:
strongly recommended generation upgrade.
S11–S14: the Bear Hunt core stabilizes
From S11 onward, the back two slots are extremely stable:
Mia + Rufus
The main remaining difference is the Infantry slot.
F2P / Mid-spender
Hector + Mia + Rufus
Whale
Depending on your own testing:
Jeronimo + Mia + Rufus
or:
Hector + Mia + Rufus
Troop ratio is largely:
1 : 1 : 98
Why doesn't the S12 Marksman replace Rufus?
The S12 Marksman's displayed skill values look strong, but some key effects do not deliver their full value in Bear Hunt.
Newer does not automatically mean better for Bear Hunt.
Why doesn't S12 Karol replace Mia?
Karol has higher-generation base stats, and with high Exclusive Gear she can be more stable with a slightly better floor.
However, by S12, most long-term Bear Hunt players already have a high-star, highly invested Mia.
Reinvesting heavily for a result that is merely similar—or only slightly more stable—has poor efficiency.
So the default route remains:
keep Mia.
Karol is better classified as a:
high-investment conditional alternative.
How long can Mia really last?
Core phase
S3 → S14
Extended phase
S15 → S17
From S14 onward, challengers such as Dominic begin to appear.
However, real account results vary. Some highly invested Mia users still record better Bear Hunt damage after testing newer heroes.
So S15–S17 should be understood as:
Still viable at high investment, but no longer guaranteed to be the absolute best for every account.
How long can Hector last?
Late-game troop ratios become extremely Marksman-heavy, for example:
1 : 1 : 98
That leaves very little Infantry in the march.
As a result, an Infantry hero's value is less about raw generation stats and more about how well their kit amplifies the Marksman-heavy rally.
For F2P and mid-spenders:
Hector: S5 → S17+
There is still no obvious mandatory retirement point.
Why can an S1 Jeronimo still survive in S17?
It is not because S1 base stats can directly compete with S17 heroes.
It is because:
- late-game Infantry ratios are tiny;
- raw generation-stat gaps matter less in that slot;
- Bear Hunt heavily rewards rally-wide and all-troop buffs;
- Jeronimo's kit remains unusually compatible with the event.
So his Bear Hunt lifespan can reasonably be written as:
Jeronimo: S1 → S17+
The best long-term Bear Hunt investments
Across all spending levels
Jeronimo ≈ Mia > Hector >>> Rufus > Bradley > everyone else
F2P / low spend
Mia > Hector >>> Rufus / Bradley > everyone else
Final takeaway
The most important Bear Hunt question is not:
“What is the newest hero?”
It is:
“Does the new hero create a meaningful gap over what I already have?”
If the gain is only 5%–10% but requires large star and Exclusive Gear investment, regular players can often extend the lifespan of the old hero.
But when a generation brings a real step change—such as Gwen, Bradley, or Rufus—that is when replacement becomes much more worthwhile.
For Infantry and Lancer, think lifespan. For Marksman, think upgrade timing. Small gains can wait; big jumps deserve resources.
